Pine Grove School proudly presents the work of our 4th Grade students at the Rowley Public Library for the month of November! Positive and Negative Space Notan Notan Is a design element used for creating composition in art. The Japanese use the term 'Notan' to describe an important element of design involving the play of light versus dark. Notan means dark versus light harmony. Students first learned about positive space and negative space and saw examples of artwork displaying both elements. Positive space is defined as the space occupied by something(person, object, animal, etc). Negative space is occupied by nothing and is the shape created by the space around the object. Please take a minute and look at the interesting abstract shapes and see if you can see anything jump out at you. Students mounted and labelled and titled his/her own work to prepare it to share with the community.! Enjoy! artsonia.com/arnews/9W942Y4D
